Cork is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland and is the principal city of County Cork. The city’s name comes from the Irish word corcach which, means marshy place. The River Lee flows through the city into Lough Mahon, which creates one of the world’s biggest natural harbours. It is no surprise that Cork is a major seaport with quays and docks.

Originally founded by St Finbarr some time in the sixth century its charter was granted in 1185 by King John. Its not got a temperature like a holiday resort in Tenerife but Cork does average nearly four hours of sunshine a day in the Summer months and is the sunniest city in Ireland. The climate of Cork is generally mild, moist and changeable however it does not suffer from any weather extremes such as storms or extreme cold in the winter

Attractions to see in Cork include Blarney Castle and Charles Fort or even a visit to the Greyhound Stadium. Should you wish to explore the surrounding countryside and beautiful coastline then it would be a good idea to hire a car. One of the more famous buildings in Cork is the Church Tower of Shandon, which is in the northern part of the city. There are some great historic walks you can do in and around the city as well as some interesting ones a short drive away.

Cork has the usual quota of fast food restaurants you would see in most cities around the world. If the need of a precautionary emergency evacuation arises, it is mandatory to follow the guidelines of the flight attendants and flight crew and leave the aricraft as soon as possible.

Airline safety guidelines

No seat can be labeled as a ’safe’ one in an aircraft. Although, anybody is seated in any position, , the ability of the travelers to maintain their temper and exit from the aircraft fast is crucial for survival. Those airlines that have large capacity passenger aircrafts are made to maintain strict safety regulations. Smaller ones do not have to adhere to such high standards. In case an airline is badly known for passenger complaints, financial problems and for not operating as per time-table, then it is better to avoid it. Emergency is sometimes necessary. It may involve evacuation of the aircraft by using the oxygen system or slides.

Oxygen masks may be given automatically or manually. Such an evacuation may be a precautionary measure and does not necessarily mean that the travelers are in peril. In case of emergency slides, being conversant with the location of exits, following the orders of the flight and cabin crew and wearing slide friendly clothes is necessary. High heeled shoes have to be removed. In case of emergency oxygen, the personal mask must be donned first. If the cabin is depressurized, unconsciousness would not occur in presence of a mask.

FAA Regulations

Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Administration Regulations are the general operating and flight rules. Special Federal Aviation Regulations include the following: special flight rules in the vicinity of the Grand Canyon National Park, AZ, air traffic control system emergency operation, prohibition against certain flights between the United States and Libya, special operating rules for air tour operators in the State of Hawaii, prohibition against certain flights within the territory and airspace of Iraq, prohibition against certain flights within the flight information region of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, prohibition against certain flights within the territory and airspace of Ethiopia, enhanced security procedures for operations at certain airports in the Washington, DC metropolitan area special flight rules area, special operating rules for the conduct of instrument flight rules area navigation operations using Global Positioning Systems in Alaska. Federal Aviation Regulations include several subparts. Subpart A is general. Subpart B is flight rules. Subpart C is equipment, instrument and certificate requirements. Subpart D is special flight operations.

Subpart F is maintenance, preventive maintenance and alterations. Subpart F is large and turbine-powered multiengine airplanes and fractional ownership program aircraft. Subpart G is additional equipment and operating requirements for large and transport category aircraft. Subpart H is for foreign aircraft operations and operations of U.S. registered civil aircrafts outside of the U.S. and rules made for passengers on board such aircraft. Subpart I is operating noise limits. Subpart J is waivers. Subpart K is fractional ownership operations.

Traveling with your kids can be a cherished experience or a horrifying nightmare. Children must always be entertained; you cannot expect them to remain quiet at all times without planning and having something resourceful to keep their minds occupied. The minds of children need to be nurtured and molded.

Always remember to bring the bare essentials when traveling. You will encounter a plethora of public restrooms that may not live up to your hygiene requirements while on the road or in the air. There is nothing like the feeling of using a public restroom and thinking of picking up a million germs upon exiting; or even settling down at a restaurant table that does not appear to be as clean as it should.

1. Portable hand sanitizers are a definite godsend! Children sometimes forget to wash their hands, especially if they are really hungry and ready for that quick snack. Packing sanitizer will eliminate a few of your worries for that eight hour drive or sixteen hour flight.

2. Baby Wipes are another blessing to the family of travelers. Be sure to bring regular and antibacterial baby wipes. Upon entering a restaurant; you may find the table may not be as clean as you would like it to be. Time to break out the hand sanitizer and baby wipes and thoroughly clean; so you can obtain some peace of mind while eating a family meal on the road. Baby wipes are great for cleaning hands, toilet seats, bathroom faucets and hand dryers, any place you know that harbor deadly germs and viruses.

3. If you are flying to your destination; be sure to choose an airline that has a children’s menu. Children will love the fact that they are able to eat their favorite foods such as pizza, chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese and Chef Boyardee ravioli or lasagna! They even include stickers and coloring books to keep your child’s mind occupied; making their traveling experience even more enjoyable.

4. Bringing your child’s favorite toys along is a most valuable asset you can possibly think of when traveling. Be sure to pack items that will hold your child’s attention such as portable art supply kits with paper, crayons, colored pencils or magic markers. Experiment with brand new toys in case they happen to become bored with the current toys they have at home. This little trick will surprise and charm them; adding many more hours of capturing and holding their attention.

5. In our wonderful age of technology, we are indeed blessed with mp3 players; Nintendo Gameboys and portable Playstations. It is wise to bring a few of their games and a possibly add a few new ones to occupy them while on the plane or in the car on that long road trip. Mp3 players hold a plethora of different tunes to occupy and break up the monotony of traveling.

6. If you have planned a road trip; it is a wise choice indeed to make a few enjoyable pit stops along the way. This allows the whole family to get out and stretch their legs for a bit; plus enjoying a new and exciting sight or activity. You may know of a nice antique store or even a children’s restaurant such as Chuck E Cheese; be sure to thoroughly plan and work it into your schedule; you may find you will spend a few hours in this place.

7. Perhaps you have a long plane trip have a young infant or toddler; definitely bring a car seat; as the airlines do not supply them. You will find your trip overwhelming and tiring if you have to travel for two to sixteen hours holding an infant or toddler with little or no sleep. Also, think of the safety factor involved. Unfortunately current U.S. laws do not require children in airplanes to be placed in car seats. You do not travel in a car while holding your infant or toddler, so why would you do this on a plane?

8. Once you have landed; jetlag will most definitely set in; which is twice as bad for children as it is for adults. Be sure to supply your children with plenty of bottled water and fruit juices. Everyone may possibly be ready for a small meal and a nap. Once everyone has taken their time and rested up; it is now time to venture out and enjoy the sights.

While there is no foolproof method of eluding thieves, the information below may help reduce the possibility of your becoming a victim:

1. Before leaving the house, think about ways to protect yourself. Think about where you want to carry your money, credit cards and identification. Don’t take valuable jewelry and watches with you. Separate valuables – don’t put all your money in one place.

4. Never advertise your intention to spend a large amount of money.

By making yourself a difficult target you can help ensure your own safety and that of your family. Please remember that thinking about what to do in an emergency is not as frightening as not knowing what to do when faced with an actual emergency.

Many times people will also turn in their frequent flyer miles for hotels or car rentals, as well! You may want to see which hotels except the flyer miles! Also, many hotels are now providing free service rides to and from the airport; therefore, you may want to see which ones offer that service so you can save money!

If you are planning a vacation and do not want to go during off season, then it would be best to do some looking around first! Also, it is possible to find some reasonable rates during the weekend; all you have to do is look and plan ahead! Also, it is equally important to always remember to get your confirmation numbers!!

I sure do like to travel. In my life plan, the most important elements to my existence are are family, health, happiness and travel. Fortunately for me I have been able to combine all of these elements in one big happy life package.

Here are five humerous but useful travel tips that I picked up over the last 2 decades from traveling around the globe. From the ruins of Machu Picchu to the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, as well as 40 of the 50 states, here are just a few of my long list of travel nuggets for local travel in the beautiful united states. I have accumulated these particular ones over the last 5 years, and best of all they don’t cost a dime!

1. The Versatile Hotel Coffee Packets: While traveling in the Midwest, I almost suffocated in my economy rental car that smelled of dog and body odor. Out of desperation, I placed the coffee filter pack from my hotel on the dashboard hoping to act as perfume. To my surprise, not only did the car adopt the cozy aroma of ground coffee, the filter bags actually seemed to absorb the odors in about a day.

2. Getting Full Use of the Campfire: When camping in the Sonoran desert, we build a warm fire when the sun set to keep us warm while we ate our dinner. Remembering a story I read when I was a boy, I placed four medium sized river stones around the fire (not in the fire). When we were ready to go to bed, I wrapped each of the rocks in a bath towel. Please note that they were hot but not sizzling to the touch. To make a long story short, we all slept like warm babies with our little packages in our sleeping bags that night!

3. Customize Your Luggage: When the cheap plastic wheels broke on my suitcase, I decided to replace them with an old pair of Rollerblade wheels. My suitcase lasted another five years and the gliding of the wheels were so much smoother and quieter that I replaced all my other luggage wheels with them.

4. Put Your Library Tax Dollars to Use: I own a timeshare in Hawaii. One day I discovered that as a local property tax payer I qualified for a library card. I don’t know if you have been to a library lately, but now when I am on vacation I can rent CDs and DVDs and best of all its closer than the nearest Blockbuster.

5. Let Technology Be Your Guide: If you want to get more detailed information on a desired destination, consult YouTube and Google. With YouTube you can find lots of people who post videos of their trip. This will give you a good feel for the true lay of the land rather than some post production masterpiece that was paid for by your resort. Use Google satellite to see what the actual terrain looks like and if your short walk to the beach requires crossing a four lane highway.

This will leave you free to enjoy what ever you want to do whilst knowing the children are enjoying themselves as well.

Whilst you are doing what you want to do your children are being entertained. The younger children can enjoy storytelling and magic shows. The older children may even learn to cook whilst the teenagers are enjoying dances and video games. There are also treasure hunts on the ship and in some cases onshore.

Educational and entertaining games are on offer with Princess cruise lines who also have their own kids program, which includes television times so the kids can watch cartoons. Princess cruise lines offer a separate dinning option so you can eat kids free whilst the children eat with their friends at the kids club. Princess cruise lines also have a sitter service, which offers adults the chance to enjoy the adult evening entertainment whilst the children sleep.

Royal Caribbean also look after families travelling on their Alaskan cruises. Royal Caribbean have their own Adventure Ocean program, which is available to children from the ages of three up to seventeen years old. All adventurers are places in the appropriate groups for their age. As before while you have your fun the children have theirs or if you want you can join in with the family entertainment programs.

Travelling on a cruise around Alaska could prove to be difficult as would any holiday if the children are bored. By traveling a cruise ship with a children’s activity and entertainments program is a great solution so that everyone has a great vacation together as a family.

Most of the international flights land at Sheremetyevo International airport, which is called Sheremetyevo II, as there is one more Sheremetyevo airport. This one is commonly called Sheremetyevo I and handles only domestic flights and flights to Belarus. But Sheremetyevo II is now under construction, which will be finally ready in 2009.

Sheremetyevo II is one of the busiest airports in the whole country. Most international flights depart from there. There are Duty-free shops, cafes, bars and also a medical office with pharmacy in the airport. Duty- free shops offer the most popular souvenirs There is also an ATM service where you withdraw the money you need, as well as banking service and bureaux de change.

There are three more airports in Moscow- Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Bykovo. Bykovo is the smallest among them and serves only domestic flights.

You can get to either of these airports by car or by an express train.

Entertainment in Moscow

If you are planning to visit Moscow with your family, then it could be interesting for the kids to be present at the performance in the Niculins circus and Obraztsov puppet theatre.

The performances at the Obraztsov theatre are in Russian, but they are very simple and can be understood. The theatre is situated at the northern part of the Garden Ring. It is one of the most popular children theatres in Moscow.

Nikulins circus has always been one of the best ones. Not only small children, but grown ups are fond of visiting it. The performances are very good.

Those tourists who are fond of night clubs can find numerous such places in Moscow. Young generation of Moscow like to spend their time in Night clubs, enjoining the company of their friends.

If you are fond of shopping, then you can visit numerous shops which offer different kinds of goods. GUM is one of the best places to do shopping or just having a walk and admiring its architecture.

It may seem strange but I do not fully trust using the internet to arrange my vacation. I’m old-fashioned and still want to sit down with a travel agent, letting them make my plans for me and I always feel like I will get better results than on a website. A travel agent will also fully expect changes to be made during the booking process and can be more flexible in their approach including when there are problems. The more maddening problem with travel sites arranged vacation is when there is a complaint about some aspect of it; this is the part that lets the whole system down as talking to a human being is not easy, and if you do actually manage to speak to someone, do have any idea where they are?

They may say something just to appease you and it will not hold true in the end. With a travel agent they are real and I can always go back to them and clarify points especially if something goes wrong. A best friend of mine only books her vacations on travel sites and often she’ll book a last minute vacation that a travel site is offering which is one huge advantage of using a travel site. There are always huge savings to be had by waiting until the last possible moment to book but you have to be flexible with your travel arrangements to do this.

I wish I could do this but my work just wouldn’t allow me to suddenly take time of as they normally need a couple of months notice. There are other discounts to be made as well if you are prepared to book your vacation through a travel site, like discounts on car hire, excursions and tickets for events for example.

Still after all is said and done I still the use the internet a great deal for my vacation research before I actually go along to see my travel agent as I will have most of the information I require before I see her. I take that information and then see a travel agent because at least I know that if my vacation turns out to be a nightmare, I have someone to come back and yell at.
